Let's review the Sinuses?
The sinuses are interconnected hollow mucous-membrane-lined cavities that are nestled within the facial bones. The largest ones are located under the cheekbones (maxillary) and in the center of the forehead (frontal). The inside of the sinuses are lined with a soft, pink tissue called mucosa. Normally, the sinuses are empty except for a thin layer of mucus. These cavities help to lighten the skull, give resonance to the voice, and moisten the air we breathe.
Sinus congestion occurs when the mucosa in the sinuses becomes inflamed – this is called sinusitis. Sinusitis does not necessarily mean sinus infection, but Sinusitis correctly defined is sinus inflammation, which causes the mucous membranes that line the sinuses to swell up as an excessive amount of mucus is produced; generating pressure inside the sinuses and often leading to discomfort.
The most common symptoms of sinusitis:
- Nasal congestion
- Post nasal drip (mucus drips down the throat)
- Nasal discharge (thick discharge from nose)
- Sore throat from the post nasal drip
- Facial pressure (particularly around the nose, eyes, and forehead)
- Pain in the teeth and/or ears
- Halitosis (bad breath)
- Cough
- A throbbing pressure in your head
- Headache
If the cause is an infection - there may be fever, fatigue and body aches.
Mainstream medicine treats sinusitis with decongestants, steroids, antibiotics and antihistamines. While there is a time and place for these medications, they also have potential negative side effects and they do not restore strength, resilience, mucosal lining integrity or health to the sinuses or upper airways like the SINUS HEALTH NATURALLY program does.
